Beaver Valley River Response Task Force
The Police Departments of Beaver Borough and Center Township, including the
municipalities of Potter Township and Vanport Township would
like to announce the inception of a jointly owned and
operated patrol boat partnership for the Beaver and Ohio
rivers.
This project has been in the planning stages for nearly three years. Thanks
to federal FEMA funding through the Pittsburgh Area Maritime
Security Committee, under the leadership of Commander Timmie
of the US Coast Guard, and with the support and assistance
of Pennsylvania State Representative Jim Christiana in
securing the federal matched funds through the Department of
Community and Economic Development, this project has been
fully funded.
The project is the result of the Center and Beaver Police Departments
working together in a joint project to form a task force
between the four municipalities with a vision of expansion
to all municipalities on the waterways of Beaver County.
The total cost of the project is $187,110.00. FEMA provided 75% of the
project cost and Representative Christiana worked to secure
the 25% matching funds through The Department of Community
and Economic Development.
The boat is a law enforcement model Boston Whaler, fully equipped including
a trailer and a tow vehicle.
Beaver County's waterways are the largest recreational area in the county,
as well as a pathway to various amounts of commerce passing
through daily. Additional security to the Montgomery Dam,
various industries, and the nuclear power plant will be
provided.
